From the penthouse of the tallest building in the world you could see the whole thing: the skyscrapers piercing the haze in clusters, including one modelled on the Elizabeth Tower; the islands shaped like palm trees jutting into the Arabian Gulf; the desert shimmering beyond the city.
Asad Khan, the estate agent who is managing the £40 million sale of the apartment, is one of the growing number of Britons chasing the Dubai dream of wealth, sunshine and a life on fast forward.
“In Dubai you’re so busy, you don’t have time to miss the UK,” he said. “You haven’t got time for a cup of tea.”
Today more British people live in this booming Emirati city than in Oxford: at least 180,000.
